Tennis - The French Open

This year’s French Open is turning in to somewhat of a damp squib with all of Monday's and the majority of yesterday's play postponed due to the wet weather. Two of the women's delayed fourth round matches between fourth seed Halep and Stosur and second seed Radwanska and Pironkova were completed, but Halep who carried over a 5-3 first set lead and Radwanska who led 6-3 3-0, both struggled in the damp slow conditions and they ended up losing their respective matches 7-6 6-3 and 2-6 6-3 6-3.

World number one and top-seed Novak Djokovic managed to play part of his delayed fourth encounter against 14th seed Bautista-Agut yesterday but, like Halep and Radwanska, he struggled to adapt to the atrocious conditions and it was Bautista-Agut who started strongest winning the first set 6-3.

The match was delayed due to rain again, but when they eventually returned Djokovic was in no mood to let the weather end his dream of winning the tournament for the first time and levelled the match by winning the second set 6-4 and raced to a 4-1 lead in the third before play was suspended again.

The fourth round match between 11th seed David Ferrer and seventh seed Tomas Berdych was suspended at 2-1 in the first set while 12th seed David Goffin and unseeded Ernest Gulbis could also manage only three games before their match was suspended with Gulbis leading 3-0.

There's a good chance that there will be uninterrupted play tomorrow with the forecast set to be 20 degrees and light cloud throughout the day. This should mean that all of the men's and women's delayed fourth round matches are completed as well as the first pair of men's quarter-finals, which should have been played yesterday.
