The Wednesday Golf Report

A great finish once again on the golf, with another playoff deciding the winner after a tough final round of golf. The conditions meant that breaking par was tough but South African Charl Schwartzel managed a stunning 67, the best round of the day, to force the playoff with long time leader Bill Haas. He settled it at the first hole with a par when Haas couldn’t get up and down from a greenside bunker and made a five. For a long time it looked like Haas was in control and our each way selection Ryan Moore appeared the only danger but Schwartzel took control and will go to Augusta full of confidence. Moore finished third to land our each way bet and should win in the near future. On to this week and it is the Bay Hill Invitational hosted by Arnold Palmer where Matt Every defends his title for the second time having won it for the last two years. A decent field has assembled with Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott the two market leaders. Swede Henrik Stenson plays this course well and was close up last week so looks sure to figure. Keep an eye out for fellow Swede David Lingmerth, who looks back to form and has course form. On the European tour we move to India for the Hero Indian Open with Anirban Lahiri defending his title after his playoff win over the unpronounceable SSP Chawrasia. Recent Australian winner Marcus Fraser played well last year and will be tough to beat but keep an eye on Frenchman Romain Wattel who is running into form.
