Sports Information: Rowing

BACKGROUND TO ROWING

Rowing is a competitive water sport. The type of event varies from single skulls to crews of eight. The sport has been governed internationally by FISA (Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d'Aviron) since 1893, and rowing was a founder Olympic sport. Galas regularly take place the world over, and international championships are notoriously competitive. Arguably, the highest profile rowing event from a betting point of view is the Varsity Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge, held in April each year on the River Thames.
