Pool is a game played with cues on a pool table with six pockets. The game has many variations but the most popular are eight ball, nine ball, straight pool and bank pool.

 

THE SPORT TODAY

 

Pool is a televised sport with a professional tour, a world championship and a number of international matches. The Mosconi Cup, played annually (in early December) between Europe and the USA, started life as an exhibition event but has grown into a major international tournament. Most European bookmakers (and betting exchanges) offer odds on major events, but the market is comparatively weak.
